Retractable Flyscreen Sydney — Sliding Mesh Screen Doors

Slide open. Seal shut. Keep the breeze, keep the view.

A retractable sliding flyscreen is the cleanest way to keep insects out and let fresh air flow through your home. Unlike bulky roll-up cassette screens or fixed mesh panels, our sliding flyscreen doors glide smoothly on a precision aluminium track — slide left or right to open, slide back to seal. The ultra-fine mesh is virtually invisible from a distance, preserving your view of the garden, bushland, or Sydney Harbour while stopping mosquitoes, flies, and moths cold.

Pet-resistant reinforced mesh options withstand claws and scratching from cats and dogs. UV-stabilised fibreglass mesh won't brittle or fade in the Australian sun. Custom powder-coated frames match your door colour. Professionally installed across Greater Sydney with a 3-year warranty — book your free measure today. Frequently asked questions

What is a retractable sliding flyscreen?
A retractable sliding flyscreen is a mesh screen door that slides horizontally on a precision aluminium track to open and close. Unlike roll-up cassette screens that retract vertically into a housing, sliding flyscreens glide left or right — making them ideal for wide openings, bi-fold doors, and sliding glass doors. When open, the screen stacks neatly to one side; when closed, the fine mesh seals against the frame to stop insects.
How much does a retractable flyscreen cost in Sydney?
Retractable flyscreen prices in Sydney typically range from AU$180 to AU$800 per opening, depending on the width, mesh grade, frame finish, and whether professional installation is included. A standard single door usually falls in the $250–400 range, while wide bi-fold or French door openings with pet-grade mesh sit at the higher end. Oversized openings, custom powder-coated frame colours, and pet-resistant mesh all add to the cost. We give you a fixed-price quote after a free in-home measure — no hidden extras for tracks, fittings, or installation.
How long does a retractable flyscreen last?
A quality retractable flyscreen typically lasts 5–10 years with normal use and basic care. The mesh is usually the first component to show wear (pets and repeated contact speed this up), while the sliding track and frame are built to outlast the mesh by several years. Our sliding screens have no spring mechanism to weaken, which is the most common failure point on cheaper roll-up screens. Every Sync flyscreen is backed by a 3-year warranty covering the mesh, track, frame, and sliding mechanism against manufacturing defects.
Retractable or fixed flyscreen — which should I choose?
Choose a retractable sliding screen for wide openings, sliding glass doors, French doors, or bi-fold doors, and whenever you want the screen to disappear when it is not in use. Choose a fixed screen for standard single windows and hinged doors where you want the lowest cost and the longest lifespan. As a rule of thumb: fixed for standard openings, retractable for large or high-traffic openings. For a full side-by-side comparison, read our guide: Retractable vs Fixed Flyscreens — which should you choose?
How does a sliding flyscreen compare to a roll-up retractable screen?
Sliding flyscreens are smoother, more durable, and better suited to wide openings. Roll-up screens use a spring-tensioned cassette that can jam or lose tension over time. Sliding screens run on a simple track with no spring mechanism — fewer moving parts, fewer problems. They are also easier to clean, maintain, and repair.
Is the mesh really pet-proof?
We offer a reinforced pet-resistant mesh grade with a thicker PVC-coated weave that resists clawing and scratching from cats and dogs. While no mesh is 100% indestructible, our pet-grade mesh is significantly tougher than standard fibreglass and holds up well to everyday pet traffic. We recommend pet-grade mesh for any household with cats or medium-to-large dogs.
Can I still see through the screen?
Yes. Our ultra-fine mesh has a high open-area ratio, meaning it is virtually invisible from a few metres away. You can enjoy clear views of your garden, bushland, or Sydney Harbour while the screen quietly blocks insects. The mesh does not darken the room or obstruct sightlines.
Does the flyscreen block air flow?
No. The fine mesh allows excellent air circulation. Fresh breezes pass through freely while mosquitoes, flies, moths, and other insects are blocked. This makes sliding flyscreens ideal for cross-ventilation — open opposite doors and windows to create natural air flow through your home without letting insects in.
Can you fit a flyscreen to arched, French, or older timber doors?
In most cases, yes. French doors and double doors are fitted with a custom sliding screen that spans the full opening, so both leaves stay usable. Older timber frames are fine as long as the frame is sound and reasonably flat — if the timber is soft or uneven, we reinforce or pack the frame before mounting the track. Arched or curved openings are the one exception: a sliding screen needs a straight track, so we recommend a custom fixed screen shaped to the arch instead. During the free measure we assess your frame and tell you honestly which option suits it.
What door types are compatible with sliding flyscreens?
Sliding flyscreens work with sliding glass doors, hinged doors, French doors, bi-fold doors, and large openings. We custom-make each screen to your exact door dimensions. The track can be surface-mounted or recessed into the frame for a flush, seamless look.
How do I maintain and clean my sliding flyscreen?
Vacuum monthly on low suction with a soft brush attachment. Wipe the mesh gently with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Never use high-pressure cleaners or abrasive sponges. Clean the track channel with a soft brush and lubricate with silicone spray annually. Slide the screen to the open position when not in use.
Do sliding flyscreens come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Sync flyscreen comes with a 3-year warranty covering the mesh, track, frame, and sliding mechanism against manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover damage from pets (if standard mesh is used), high-pressure cleaning, or misuse. Extended warranty options are available for pet-grade mesh installations.
