Awnings for Parramatta homes
Stop the western sun before it hits the glass.
Parramatta gets the worst of Sydney's afternoon sun, and the city's buildings are shaped to collect it. Between the high-rise apartment towers along the river, the new townhouse developments and the older brick homes on the surrounding streets, a huge share of the living space faces west — and bakes from about 2pm.
Indoor blinds cannot solve this. By the time sunlight reaches a roller blind it has already crossed the glass and the heat is inside the room. An awning blocks the radiation before it gets that far, which is the only thing that genuinely drops the temperature.
West-facing living rooms along the Parramatta River take the full afternoon sun from about 2pm — which is why an external awning does more here than any indoor blind can.
What Parramatta and the surrounding suburbs actually have
Measured on site, not assumed from a map.
West and north-west facing living rooms are the norm
Parramatta's residential towers and townhouses are oriented toward the river and the CBD skyline, which puts a large share of living rooms and master bedrooms on the western side. Those rooms take the full afternoon load. This is the single most common reason people in Parramatta call us about heat.
Apartment towers where an awning cannot be fitted
A high-rise balcony above the ground floor usually cannot take a folding-arm awning — there is no wall to fix to and the wind load at height is wrong for it. The practical answer is a Zipscreen or outdoor blind on the balcony opening instead. We tell you which is viable at the measure rather than selling you the wrong product.
Townhouses with a small west-facing courtyard
The newer townhouse developments through Parramatta, North Parramatta and Rydalmere typically have a compact rear courtyard facing west. A folding-arm awning over a set of rear doors or a window is a natural fit here, and the small span keeps the cost sensible.
Older double-brick homes with deep window reveals
The established streets around Parramatta have double-brick homes with generous window reveals. Deep reveals are good for mounting window awnings and for installing exterior awnings cleanly — but the brick needs the right fixing, and cheap masonry plugs are a common cause of an awning coming loose.
Strata approval is usually required
Anything on the external face of a building — which is what an awning is — generally needs owners-corporation approval in a strata scheme. Internal window coverings do not. Get the approval in writing before ordering.

Balconies above the tree line
Above the ground floor there is often no wall to fix a folding-arm awning to, and the wind load at height is wrong for one. The workable answer is a Zipscreen across the opening instead.
