Frequently asked questions

What are the different types of curtains available?
Three main types: sheer curtains (light-filtering, 40–70% UV block, maintains visibility), blockout curtains (99% light block, 3-pass acrylic backing, ideal for bedrooms), and layered curtains (sheer + blockout on a double track). Six heading styles: S-fold, pinch pleat, eyelet, pencil pleat, inverted box pleat, rod pocket.
What is the difference between sheer and blockout curtains?
Sheer curtains filter daylight, reduce glare, and provide daytime privacy while allowing outward visibility, blocking 40–70% UV. Blockout curtains use coated opaque fabric with 3-pass acrylic backing that blocks 99% of light, ideal for bedrooms and home theatres. Layered combines both on a double track.
How long does it take to make and install custom curtains?
Typical timeline is 2–4 weeks: fabric arrives in 5–10 business days, production (cutting, sewing, heading) takes 5–7 days, then installation within 2–3 days of completion. Express turnaround (10 business days) available on selected fabrics.
What curtain heading styles are available?
Six styles: S-fold (modern wave-look, most popular), pinch pleat (classic formal), eyelet (contemporary metal rings), pencil pleat (tight gathered folds), inverted box pleat (clean architectural flat top), and rod pocket (casual gathered look for sheers).
Can curtains be motorised?
Yes — we offer motorised track systems from Somfy and Lutron. Controlled by remote, wall switch, smartphone app, or voice via Google Home and Alexa. Ideal for hard-to-reach windows, heavy blockout curtains, and automated routines.
How do I choose the right fabric for my curtains?
Consider light control (sheer/mid/blockout), room function (bedrooms need blockout, living rooms suit sheer, kitchens need moisture-resistant blends), and style (linen for Scandinavian, velvet for luxury, cotton for classic). Our consultants bring 500+ swatches to your in-home measure.
How do I clean and maintain curtains?
Vacuum monthly on low suction with a soft brush. Spot-clean with damp cloth and mild detergent. Sheer and unlined polyester can be gentle-machine-washed (cold, delicate, line dry). Blockout and lined curtains must be dry-cleaned only. Deep clean every 2–3 years. Check care label.
Do custom curtains come with a warranty?
Yes. Sync provides a full warranty covering fabric defects, stitching, heading construction, and motorised track components for residential installations in Sydney. Extended warranties available for premium fabrics and commercial installations.
How much do custom curtains cost per window in Sydney?
In 2026, expect roughly AU$400–$1,000+ per window supplied and installed for a single track and one curtain layer. A full double-track wall with sheer and blockout commonly runs $2,000 or more. Fabric, fullness and track type drive the price.
Sheer or blockout curtains — do I need both?
For most living areas, yes. Layer them on a double track: sheer for daytime light and privacy, blockout for darkness and insulation at night. Sheers can be see-through at night when lights are on, so layering solves both.
Can I install curtains with a concrete apartment ceiling?
Yes. Sydney apartment ceilings are usually concrete or plasterboard over concrete, so masonry anchors or a correctly fixed batten are needed — a standard screw will not hold. If the ceiling is common property, you may also need owners-corporation approval.
How do I measure for floor-to-ceiling curtains?
Measure the track width (1.5–2× the window width for good fullness) and the drop from the track line to the floor, finishing 10–20mm above the floor or just touching it. Have the supplier measure — small errors in drop are the most costly curtain mistake.
