Motorised & Manual Outdoor Blinds Sydney — Patio, Balcony & Cafe Blinds

Turn an exposed patio into a space you actually use — in any weather.

Outdoor blinds are the single biggest upgrade you can make to an exposed patio, balcony, courtyard or shopfront in Sydney. They block the low western sun that makes a west-facing area unusable from about 3pm, cut wind so you can sit outside when it is blowing, and add a layer of privacy from neighbours and the street — all without building a wall or giving up the view.

We supply and install three main types. Zipscreen is the most weather-tight: the fabric runs in a zip track down each side, so it cannot flap or pull out, even in strong coastal wind. Straight-drop outdoor blinds are a simpler roller blind for sheltered patios and courtyards. Cafe blinds are lightweight clear or mesh PVC for shopfronts, pergolas and alfresco dining. Every job is measured on site, custom-made to your exact opening, and installed by our own team. Book a free in-home measure and we will bring samples so you can see how each one looks in your own light. If what you actually need is a bedroom that goes fully dark, that is a different product — see our blockout blinds with side tracks. See finished installations in our Sydney projects gallery.

What you may want from a Outdoor Blinds

Three things our Sydney customers ask for most.

Use the space all year

Shade in summer, wind and rain protection in winter — an outdoor area you stop avoiding.

Lower cooling bills

Blocking the low western sun before it hits the glass reduces heat gain and takes pressure off the air conditioning.

Privacy on your terms

Screen the neighbours and the street when you want to, open it back up when you do not.

Key features

Zipped sides, no flapping

Zipscreen runs the fabric in a zip track down both sides — it stays taut and quiet even in a strong coastal breeze.

Blocks the low western sun

The 3pm–6pm sun is what makes west-facing patios unbearable. Outdoor blinds cut it at the source.

Wind protection, not a wall

Cut the breeze enough to sit outside, while keeping the outlook and the light.

Privacy from neighbours and street

Sunscreen and blockout fabrics screen your outdoor area without darkening the whole house.

Clear PVC or mesh fabric

Clear PVC keeps the view and stops wind and rain; mesh fabrics cut glare and heat while letting air through.

Motorised or manual

Manual crank and strap options, or motorised with remote, app and wind-sensor automation.

UV and fade resistant

UV-stabilised outdoor fabrics and powder-coated aluminium frames built for Australian conditions.

Custom made to your opening

Single wide spans, corner returns, and odd-shaped openings — measured and made to fit exactly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Zipscreen and standard outdoor blinds?
Standard outdoor blinds are roller blinds that hang down in front of an opening. In wind, the fabric can flap and pull away from the sides. Zipscreen adds a zip track down each side of the fabric, so the blind is held taut across its full width and cannot pull out. That makes Zipscreen the right choice for exposed balconies, waterfront properties and anywhere with strong or gusty wind. For a sheltered courtyard, a straight-drop outdoor blind is often perfectly adequate and costs less.
Which type suits a windy balcony?
Zipscreen. The zipped side tracks are what stop the fabric flapping and pulling out of the guides. On a windy balcony we also recommend a heavier outdoor fabric grade and, for larger spans, a motorised unit with a wind sensor so the blind retracts automatically if the wind picks up beyond a safe level.
Can outdoor blinds be motorised?
Yes. Motorised outdoor blinds run on a tubular motor with remote control, and can be integrated with Google Home, Alexa and Apple HomeKit for scheduling and voice control. Wind and sun sensors are available — the blind retracts automatically when wind exceeds a set threshold, which protects the fabric and the mechanism. Manual crank and strap options are also available if you prefer a simpler setup.
Do outdoor blinds block the view?
It depends on the fabric you choose. Clear PVC is transparent — you keep the view and still stop wind and rain. Sunscreen mesh fabrics let you see out while cutting glare, heat and UV. Blockout fabrics give complete privacy and full shade. Most customers choose a mesh or clear fabric for the main outlook and blockout for a side that faces neighbours.
How much do outdoor blinds cost in Sydney?
Pricing depends on the width and height of the opening, the fabric grade, whether you choose Zipscreen or a straight-drop blind, and whether you add motorisation. Because every opening is different, we quote each job individually after a free on-site measure — you get a fixed price in writing before any work starts, with no obligation.
Can outdoor blinds be fitted to a pergola?
Yes — pergolas are one of the most common places we install them. Blinds fitted to the pergola beam enclose the space so it stays usable when it rains or when the wind picks up, and they can be combined with louvre-roof pergolas and side screens. We fix into the pergola frame or into the posts, depending on how your pergola is built.
Do outdoor blinds work on a rental property?
In most cases yes, and they are removable. Fitting is usually into the existing structure — the soffit, the beam, or the balcony ceiling — with a small number of fixing points. We can talk through the least invasive option for your situation and, if needed, use existing fixing points so you leave nothing behind when you move out.
How do I clean and maintain outdoor blinds?
Hose the fabric down with fresh water every few months, or wipe it with a soft cloth and mild soap. Never use high-pressure cleaners, harsh detergents or abrasive brushes. Keep the side tracks clear of grit and leaves, and lubricate the zip and track lightly with silicone spray once a year. Leave the blind slightly open in hot weather rather than fully tensioned for long periods. Coastal properties benefit from a fresh-water rinse more often, to remove salt.
What is the difference between outdoor blinds and Zipscreen?
Outdoor blinds is a broad category (cafe, straight-drop and spring-tensioned blinds). Zipscreen is a track-guided blind whose fabric has a zip edge running inside an aluminium channel on each side, which holds the fabric taut and resists wind far better than a loose blind.
Mesh or clear PVC outdoor blinds — which is better?
Mesh blocks wind, glare and insects while keeping airflow and light, so it suits hot, sunny patios. Clear PVC blocks wind and rain and keeps the view, suiting colder, wind-driven areas — but choose UV-stabilised PVC, because cheap PVC yellows and cracks in the Australian sun.
Do outdoor blinds make a patio usable in winter?
They block wind, rain and glare, which makes a patio far more comfortable, but they do not heat the air. In mid-winter a sheltered, screened space will still be cool unless you add heating. Treat them as weather protection, not a heater.
Do outdoor blinds need strata approval in NSW?
Yes, in most cases. Installing outdoor blinds on a strata or company-title balcony usually requires written owners-corporation approval and often a by-law, because it changes the building's external appearance. Get approval before ordering.
